Verizon will be making a major push with Windows Phone 8 this holiday season, as the nation's largest carrier will offer the HTC 8X?and Nokia Lumia 822 for preorder starting Friday, Nov. 9.?
Verizon said both devices will be available in retail stores by Thanksgiving and preorders Friday at 1 a.m. EST. The Nokia Lumia 822 will cost about $100 and the HTC 8X will be about $200 (both prices are with a new, two-year contract).?
Both are nice handsets but the most-appealing thing about these may be the Windows Phone 8 operating system. Microsoft's latest mobile platform has the same kernal as Windows 8, so it's more powerful than previous versions. It includes those live tiles we've grown accustomed to, as well as built-in Skype, and its app store ecosystem is now at over 100,000 apps.
Of the two, I'd probably go for the 8X because it's an absolutely gorgeous smartphone and it has better specs than the Lumia 822, but both devices should be nice. Verizon will also be carrying the Windows 8-powered Samsung Ativ?Odyssey by the end of the year.??
