One person needed to take on two characters?

Hi, my friend and I are in need of one person to fill up the two final spaces of her roleplay.
The plot is a boarding school created for the children of celebrities and the elite, and we're both really excited to start.
It does have Face Claims, the two remaining being Allie Gonino and Charlie McDonnell, but I'm sure my friend won't mind changing them if you have a good enough suggestion.

The roleplay is here http://www.roleplaygateway.com/roleplay/ashlocke-academy/ for anyone interested.

Thanks. :)

Backpacking travel & Outdoor adventure: Backpacking to Perth day 4

Backpacking to Perth
Cape to Cape of Margaret River Valley
07 Sep. to 18 Sep. 2012

Day 04 Mon. (10.09.2012) Day 1: Polglass Way, Ardross is 247km to Dunsborough driving south passing by Mandurah, Bunbury and Busselton

We started the day early and by 7.30am we were on the Kwinana Freeway/State Route 2 heading south to Mandurah a 63km away. At about 9am we visited Dave?s step grandfather, Alf Garden who is 84. He is still very healthy and has been cycling 40km at times. Alf Garden stays alone in a very cozy house nearby the sea in Mandurah.

At 10am Dave hired a 8 seater runabouts boat (A$50) from Blue Manna, 13 Dolphin Drive, Mandurah, (http://www.bluemannaboathire.com.au) for an hour boat drive along the man-made canal. Dave drove us through the scenic Peel Inlet and the Mandurah Estuary viewing the luxury canal side homes.

At 11am we had the best fish and chips for lunch at Cicerello, (http://www.cicerellos.com.au) 73 Mandurah Terrace overlooking the beautiful Mandjar Bay.

At 12noon we continued another 160km road journey south passing by Bunbury and arriving at Busselton at 2.25pm on Forrest Hwy and Bussell Hwy. From here we continued 24km on Caves Rd. to Dunsborough arriving at 2.52pm to pick up the Pelican Cottage keys from Cape Executive Holiday Properties office at 4a Dunn Bay Centre, 31-33 Dunn Bay Rd. which was pre-booked online by Monica. The cottage was very clean and pleasant with all facilities available. The weblink: http://www.capeexec.com.au

After checking-in to the cottage, we headed out to explore the town and did some shopping for dinner at Coles supermarket. Dave went and bought some wine for the ladies from another bottle shop. Dinner was awfully fantastic; Dave prepared grilled salmon bought at Coles with plenty of wine to go with.

Sleeping: "Pelican Cottage" Lecaille Court, Dunsborough - a night for 8pax @ A$161

5 Things We Learned at the Air Force Convention

(1) Russia has a long-term plan for the human exploration of space that it is showing off around the world.

The Russian Academy of Science has crafted a 30-year plan to explore space, including manned expeditions. That's according to Thomas Stafford, the chairman of the NASA International Space Station Advisory Committee, who says he's seen the plan. The so-called Joint Human Exploration Policy is meant to involve multiple nations and "has the management structure of the International Space Station," Stafford says. The plan treats the moon as a seventh continent and proposes to use facilities there as a springboard to farther destinations.

Stafford, a former pilot and astronaut, says Russia has begun to informally shop the idea around in world capitals. He says the Europeans have been receptive to the plan, whereas the Chinese are more interested in going it alone. Stafford's takeaway on the future of human spaceflight: "Looks the like Russians are ahead of the U.S." He offered no word on the White House's or NASA's reaction to the plan.

(2) The Pentagon will consider private space companies to launch its satellites.

Watch out, big aerospace. Private space could try to take a bite out of the security space launch market now dominated by the Boeing-Lockheed partnership United Launch Alliance. "I don't want to sound like we are bashing the United Launch Alliance; they are great partners with a wonderful track record," says Gen. William Shelton, head of Air Force Space Command. "But we pay a lot for it. We believe an increase in competition here is a good thing. We are going to take a hard look at new entrants." He says private space companies have "a new way of looking at things," but could have a hard time adapting to the Air Force's rigid certification processes.

(3) The most advanced military hardware will debut in the Pacific.

From F-22 Raptor fighters to unmanned surveillance aircraft to Littoral Combat ships, the Pentagon's best toys will go to commanders in the Pacific first. Ashton Carter, the Pentagon's acquisitions chief, says the United States is shifting from fighting wars against low-tech insurgents to prepare for enemies that have more advanced radar and missiles that can keep aircraft and ships at a distance. The Air Force proved itself useful in Iraq and Afghanistan by offering ubiquitious surveillance, something that will be much more difficult "where the air threat is not essentially negligible," Carter says.

(4) America may not dominate satellite launches to orbit, but American entrepreneurs dominate the suborbital ambitions.

The bad news: The United States has lost its space launch industry to deliver satellites to space. "The orbital space industry has gone offshore," says Pamela Melroy, a retired air force colonel and current director of field operations for the FAA's office of Commercial Space Transportation. Government funding of private space companies to deliver cargo to the International Space Station has yet to close this gap. "Things are really starting to pick up, mostly because of government support of private space," she says. "It may be a subsidy but they (the companies) do want to make money doing it."

However, American companies like Virgin Galactic are leaping ahead of the world when it comes to lower altitudes. "Right now the only ones doing substantial work in suborbital [launches] are in the United States." Melroy says. These flights are not government-sponsored and are aimed at space tourism. However, Melroy says, the research and education opportunities are much larger?for example, flights that validate spacecraft hardware with 5-minute hops into space.

(5) Not everyone loves the idea of refueling satellites in space.

It sounds like such a good idea: When satellites run out of fuel, send up a robot to top them off instead of launching a new one. NASA and DARPA have active programs researching this concept. But Gen. Shelton, as head of Air Force Space Command, says he doesn't see the need. By the time a satellite runs out of propellant, the hardware is about 22 years old. After that much time, he argues, the solar arrays have degraded and the computers are relics. "Now we want to go up and refuel it?" he asks. "When you peel back a few layers of this onion, it makes less sense to me."

Show We Relocate The Laundry Room? | REALTOR.com? Blogs

questions

Q: Currently, I have a stacked washer/dryer unit in my guest bathroom. I would like to move it to a building that is not directly connected to the house but a few steps away via the back deck.

We are going to sell the house and I would like to know if moving the unit out of the house would be detrimental to the sale?
?Nina, Waveland, MS

A: That seems like a low priority item to worry about; focus on cleaning and decluttering your house wile fixing all of the issues that need dealt with before winter comes. If a buyer comes along who complains about where W/D is, offer to move hook-ups to put where they may desire. JC
Janice Caputo is a Realtor? with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Services in Pittsburgh, PA.

A: Dear Waveland, MS

Yes, I would suggest keeping the laundry set up where it is. If you find that there are complaints about its location in the guest bathroom, you can reconsider, but I think you will find that most homeowners prefer not to leave the residence to do laundry.

Experts recommend screening adults for hypertriglyceridemia every five years

ScienceDaily (Sep. 7, 2012) ? The Endocrine Society today issued a Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertriglyceridemia. Triglycerides are a type of fat found in the blood and are associated with cardiovascular risk.

The CPG, entitled "Evaluation and Treatment of Hypertriglyceridemia: An Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline" appears in the September 2012 issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM), a publication of The Endocrine Society.

The most common reasons for high triglycerides include being overweight, lack of exercise, the metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and familial combined hyperlipidemia, a genetic disorder that runs in the family. It results in high triglycerides, high "bad" (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) cholesterol and low "good" (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL) cholesterol.

"There is increasing evidence that high triglyceride levels represent a cardiovascular risk and in addition, very high triglyceride level is a risk factor for pancreatitis," said Lars Berglund, MD, PhD, of the University of California, Davis, and chair of the task force that authored the guideline. "The guideline presents recommendations for diagnosis of high triglyceride levels, and recommendations for management and treatment."

Recommendations from the CPG include:

  • Because severe hypertriglyceridemia increases the risk for pancreatitis and mild hypertriglyceridemia may be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, adults should be screened for hypertriglyceridemia as part of a lipid panel at least every five years;
  • Diagnosis of hypertriglyceridemia should be based on fasting triglyceride levels and not on non-fasting triglyceride levels;
  • ? Individuals found to have any elevation of fasting triglycerides should be evaluated for secondary causes of hyperlipidemia including endocrine conditions and medications. Treatment should be focused on such secondary causes;
  • Patients with primary hypertriglyceridemia should be assessed for other cardiovascular risk factors, such as central obesity, hypertension, abnormalities of glucose metabolism, and liver dysfunction;
  • Clinicians should evaluate patients with primary hypertriglyceridemia for family history of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease to assess genetic causes and future cardiovascular risk; and
  • Initial treatment of mild-to-moderate hypertriglyceridemia should be lifestyle therapy, including dietary counseling to achieve appropriate diet compostion, physical activity, and a program to achieve weight reduction in overweight and obese individuals.

The Hormone Health Network has published a companion patient guide to this CPG. The patient guide, which can be found online at http://www.hormone.org/Resources/upload/PG-Hypertriglyceridemia-web.pdf, explains how hypertriglyceridemia impacts the body and discusses treatment options.

Other members of The Endocrine Society task force that developed this CPG include: John D. Brunzell of the University of Washington; Anne C. Goldberg of Washington University School of Medicine; Ira J. Goldberg of Columbia University in New York; Frank Sacks of Harvard University School of Public Health in Boston, MA; Mohammad Hassan Murad of The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN; and Anton F. H. Stalenhoef of Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre in The Netherlands.

The Society established the Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) Program to provide endocrinologists and other clinicians with evidence-based recommendations in the diagnosis and treatment of endocrine-related conditions. Each CPG is created by a task force of topic-related experts in the field. Task forces rely on scientific reviews of the literature in the development of CPG recommendations. The Endocrine Society does not solicit or accept corporate support for its CPGs. All CPGs are supported entirely by Society funds.

NBC's Tom Brokaw hospitalized, says he's doing OK

NEW YORK (AP) ? NBC News special correspondent Tom Brokaw was taken to a Charlotte, N.C., hospital Thursday morning after appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." He later tweeted that he was doing OK.

The network says Brokaw felt "light-headed" on the set of the news-talk program, which has been originating this week from Charlotte. "Out of an abundance of caution," he was taken to a Charlotte-area hospital, which was not identified. NBC said he was being evaluated and "is in good spirits."

At about 10 a.m. Eastern, Brokaw posted on Twitter: "All is well Early AM I mistakenly took a half dose of Ambien and made less sense than usual. Made a better comeback than Giants..."

The 72-year-old Brokaw has been keeping a busy schedule of on-air appearances at the Republican National Convention last week and, this week, at the Democratic Convention.

He has served as special correspondent for NBC News since stepping down as anchor of "Nightly News" in 2004.

Investment Advice ? Principle #1 ? Pay Yourself First

It seems like every time we get an opportunity to save some money, something always comes up. While we can?t stop those things from happening, we can learn how to build a wining financial game plan that won?t get sidetracked by life?s detours.

Many people will earn a fortune over their lifetime and will still end up with virtually nothing to retire on. For instance, if you earn $600 per week, you will have over $1,200,000 pass through your hands in an average working lifetime of 40 years!

One of the secrets of getting off correctly planning for retirement, is not squandering sums of money normally regarded as too small to be significant.

If you?re approaching your mid-forties, you?ve probably already worked 20 years. If so, you are halfway to retirement. Ask yourself if you have presently accumulated at least half of what you need to live on for the rest of your life. Statistics show that most people haven?t. And working harder isn?t the answer, investing smarter is!

So if you?re ready, let?s get started with the retirement investing principles that can help you reach your financial goals!

Principle #1 in the Investment Advice: Retirement Investing For Everyone series is:
Pay Yourself First

By paying yourself first I mean putting 10% of your income towards your savings and investments before anything else. By doing this, you?re putting yourself and your family ahead of your creditors. Otherwise you might find, like many others, that you have too much month left at the end of the money.

Now I?m not advocating not paying your bills. It?s just that it always seemed to me, when I paid my bills first, there was never any money left to save or invest with. But when I paid myself first, I still found the money to pay the bills.

The first place for your 10% is to build up approximately three months or more of living expenses in a savings account. This is not a financial investment, it?s an emergency fund. This is here so you won?t have to sell any investments later on to pay for any personal emergencies that might arise.

Another example of paying yourself first is to live below your means. For instance, when you get a raise, put a good portion, if not all of it toward your retirement nest egg. If you were getting along fine before the raise, don?t waste it, invest it!

He mentioned they would rebate the fee back again to me as soon as they acquired a commission for representing me in th sale. Is this lawful ?

Very best answer:

Reply by Ralfcoder
I never know if it?s authorized, but in this market, a customer is god. If you?re serious about purchasing, I?d tell this real estate agent ?so long?, and go find one more real estate agent. Realtors and sellers are begging for consumers, so you can just about publish your very own ticket below.

I?m assuming that you have not signed any contracts with this realtor nevertheless. If you have, then those will take precedent here, of course. If you did indicator anything, go study the wonderful print. If you will not recognize any of it, request the realtor to explain it. If you nonetheless never comprehend it, go speak to a genuine estate lawyer.

What do you assume? Reply below!

Syria clashes rage as safe havens plea fails

Fierce fighting rocked northern Syria on Friday as Ankara pressed its call for safe havens to be set up in the country to stem the refugee exodus and protesters demanded the fall of the regime.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon told Syria's premier at a summit in Tehran that Damascus must stop using heavy weapons in the conflict, and the International Committee of the Red Cross warned of a fast deteriorating humanitarian situation.

Clashes erupted in the battleground city of Aleppo, less than 50 kilometres (30 miles) from the Turkish border, and rebels attacked Abu Zohur air base in Idlib province on the border where they said they shot down a MiG warplane on Thursday, a rights group said.

In some of the heaviest fighting, rebels clashed with army troops in Albu Kamal, a town in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"The rebels have seized several army posts, including a base in the Hamdan military airport," Abdel Rahman told AFP.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu expressed frustration at the reluctance of Ankara's Western allies to heed its calls for protected camps inside Syria to cope with the rapidly swelling numbers of fleeing civilians.

The United Nations estimates that in Aleppo alone at least 200,000 of the city's 2.7 million population have fled since it became a major battleground on July 20.

Rebels attacked a security service building in west Aleppo before dawn, and clashes erupted in the districts of Saif al-Dawla and Salaheddin in the southwest and Hanano in the northeast, the Observatory said.

In Idlib province, rebels seized part of the Abu Zohur base in heavy clashes, the Britain-based watchdog said.

The rebels say that aircraft from Abu Zohur have been used by President Bashar al-Assad's regime to launch devastating strikes on rebel-held areas.

The Observatory reported at least 70 people killed on Friday, with the overall death toll since the uprising against Assad's rule erupted in March last year now topping 26,000.

It warned that hundreds of families remain trapped in the central city of Homs as an army siege of rebel-held districts entered its 90th day on Friday.

"The injured and the elderly need medicine, the children need milk. But nobody in the world cares any more, no one at all," activist Abu Bilal told AFP in Beirut via Skype. "Here in Homs, we are all dying a slow death."

Protesters demonstrated in Damascus, Daraa, Hama and also in Aleppo, chanting anti-regime slogans.

"We will not surrender, despite your tanks and guns!" they shouted in Assali, a Damascus district, while chants like "Treacherous soldier, shame on you!" echoed in Daraa as protesters accused regime troops of killing civilians.

-- 'Stop using heavy arms' --

-----------------------------

The UN's Ban told Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi and Foreign Minister Walid Muallem that the fighting must stop, "with the primary responsibility resting on the government to halt its use of heavy weapons."

He said at a news conference in Tehran: "What is important at this time is that all the parties must stop the violence. All those actors who may be providing arms to both sides... must stop."

The International Committee of the Red Cross warned that the situation across large swathes of Syria was "edging towards irreversible deterioration."

A Turkish diplomat told AFP Ankara would maintain its campaign for a safe haven inside Syria for the tens of thousands of civilians fleeing the violence after Davutoglu's appeal to the UN Security Council fell on deaf ears.

"We will continue to appeal to the international community to act," the diplomat said on condition of anonymity.

Davutoglu on Thursday told the Security Council to act "without delay" to set up safe havens, warning that 80,000 Syrians are already in camps in Turkey, with 4,000 crossing the border each day.

"How long are we going to sit and watch while an entire generation is being wiped out by random bombardment and deliberate mass targeting?" Davutoglu asked, slamming the Security Council's failure to act.

But world powers failed to reach agreement on his proposal which would imply authorising a highly controversial protective military operation.

Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Muqdad told Iran's Arabic-language Al-Alam television: "Turkey nowadays trains and allows in terrorists, allows in Al-Qaeda. Most of the terrorists in Syria come from Turkey."

Syria ally Russia on Friday again called for an immediate end to the violence.

"The violence in Syria has to be ended immediately," and work begun on a "political settlement to end the suffering of the civilian population," a foreign ministry statement said.

In other developments, Canada expanded sanctions against Damascus, adding 50 names to a list of people and organisations linked to Assad's regime in Ottawa's 10th tightening of sanctions against Syria in the past year.

And the news agency MAP said Morocco will host the next "Friends of Syria" meeting in October, not September as originally scheduled.

New York City health commissioner: scold or lifesaver?

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Critics call him a puritanical scold, Gotham's Dr. No and a nursemaid to Mayor Michael Bloomberg's nanny state. Meet Thomas Farley, New York City's health commissioner.

Farley, a pediatrician and endurance athlete, says they are wrong about his efforts to help New Yorkers eat better, smoke less and exercise more -- moves that have been linked to New York's recent gains in average life expectancy, the biggest gains of any metro area in the country.

"Anybody who is first at doing something is going to get a lot of criticism. And this is New York, this is the way we deal with each other," said Farley, who hopes to roll out two of his most controversial health initiatives this month.

One is a plan to restrict the size of sugary drinks to 16 ounces or less nearly everywhere they are sold, which is expected to be approved soon by the city health board. The other is a push to have hospitals promote breastfeeding by making baby formula less available to new mothers.

Behind the desk in Farley's office in Queens are reminders of the marketing muscle he's up against: eye-catching tobacco products, colorful 23-ounce sugary drinks and a cache of baby formula sent unsolicited to an expectant mother on his staff.

The unquestionably fit Farley shared his height - 6 foot 2 inches - but declined to reveal his weight or age, although he appears to be in his mid-50s. Each day he leaves the Manhattan apartment he shares with his wife, also a pediatrician, and their four daughters for a 4-mile run, a 10-mile bike ride or weight lifting and a swim.

His chief vice is pastries, and he immediately regretted telling a reporter that as a boy in New Jersey he ducked into the woods to smoke cigarettes with friends until he was caught.

Farley graduated with honors from Haverford College. After receiving his medical degree from Tulane University, he spent 11 years with the Louisiana Office of Public Health.

He took the helm in New York in 2009 after Thomas Frieden left to run the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As the head of an agency with 6,000 employees and a $1.6 billion budget, Farley today shoulders what he calls Bloomberg's legacy as "the world's first public health mayor."

Along with his predecessor, Farley is credited with pioneering bans on smoking and trans fats, mandates to reduce salt and post calorie counts, and initiatives that pushed junk food to the back of corner grocery stores.

At the same time, the city has reclaimed streets and created construction incentives to transform bike riding, walking and stair climbing into almost unavoidable exercise.

CRITICS ABOUND

Those efforts are being replicated in cities across the globe -- calories are now printed on menus in Seattle, and in Hanoi smoking is no longer allowed in public places -- even as they come under fire from restaurant groups, food and beverage companies, and small business owners.

Farley brushed off criticism that he's trampling personal freedoms as a gripe from industries motivated by unfounded fears of lost profits.

"We're creating a healthier environment that gives people the freedom to just go about their business without having to worry so much about being vigilant about their health behavior," Farley said.

"He really said that?" asked Andrew Moesel, spokesman for the New York City chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association, which opposes the proposed soda ban. "There have been many times when this administration thinks they know what's best for citizens and that just rubs people the wrong way."

While Farley's approach may bristle, results are cropping up that may shift the conversation.

A study discussed in the June 2012 medical journal Lancet shows New York City far outpaced the rest of the nation in gains in life expectancy. Some success is due to the city preventing and controlling AIDS, but more than 60 percent of the increase in life expectancy since 2000 can be attributed to reductions in heart disease, cancer, diabetes and stroke, the report said.

"A major role was played by the health department, especially the programs and policies to promote healthy living," lead researcher Ali Mokdad, a professor at the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, told Reuters.

Farley's crusade for a healthier New York has faced setbacks. A tempest swirled in January when an obese actor complained that his photo had been altered to depict him as an amputee in a city advertisement on the dangers of diabetes.

And in July the courts ruled the city could not scare smokers by requiring delis to hang posters of a stroke-damaged brain, a cancerous lung and a rotting tooth.

Farley credited Bloomberg for the health department's success. It also helps to have a city board of health to pass rules that might otherwise get bogged down in a broader state legislature, he said.

"It's very rare for public health agencies around the country to have all those things working in their favor, so we feel obligated, in a way, to make headway here," he said. "Then the rest of the country often follows us."

Apple and Google CEO in Talks, Could a Compromise be Near?

With a major victory behind him, it appears Apple CEO Tim Cook is ready to put his weapons down, or at least begin talks to find a resolution, as he is rumored to have held preliminary discussions this week with Google CEO Larry Page.

While Google has not been the direct target of Apple's numerous lawsuits, which span the globe from America to Asia, and Europe too, its Android operating system has felt the impact of last week's court ruling that found Samsung guilty of infringing upon multiple innovative smartphone features from Apple. Despite claims that the patents at issue in the case were not generic to Android, Google is the real target for Apple's suits, as the Internet giant has a strong hand is the smartphone scene, from its support for OEM partners' legal campaigns to its acquisition of Motorola Mobility, in which it inherited a slew of Apple-charged lawsuits.

Yet, if Apple were to hold Google solely responsible for the alleged harm Android has caused the Cupertino-based company, it would be a much more difficult argument to convince the jury of, as Google does not compete with Apple directly. Since Google only creates and sells its software to manufacturers, which then produce the handsets that have supposedly violated Apple's creative license, it doesn't serve as a direct competitor to the iPhone. So while Apple may have a lot of ammunition after its win against Samsung, it is more challenging to get an injunction against a company that doesn't compete directly.

According to reports, Cook and Page have already spoken by phone and will hold further talks soon. With a Japanese judge ruling in favor of Samsung earlier this week, it seems that there is major subjectivity when it comes to judgments on software and design patents, which could work against Apple again in the future. Perhaps talks to stop further escalation, while protecting the Android operating system, is the best option for the two technology giants.

While the iPhone-maker is not likely to drop its current cases, a compromise with Google could affect its outstanding fights with HTC, Motorola and other individual vendors, and also stall Apple from further lawsuits. It remains to be seen if such talks will produce a favorable settlement for all, so keep informed on Apple's and Google's on goings with Brighthand.
