The Library at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 12-month, tenure-track Social Sciences Librarian. The successful candidate will be responsible for effective librarianship, scholarship, and service. Specific responsibilities are described below.

Collection Development: Serve as collection development coordinator for African-American Studies, Psychology, Political Science, Criminology, Communication Studies, and Sociology/Anthropology. Work closely with the faculty in these departments to assess the needs of the academic programs, to select print and electronic library materials, and to provide all necessary bibliographic support for these academic programs.

Reference: Provide general reference service and research assistance in collaboration with the other public services librarians. Provide in-depth reference service to students and faculty in the departments of African-American Studies, Psychology, Political Science, Criminology, Communication Studies, and Sociology/Anthropology. Some evening and weekend duties required.

User Education: Provide subject-specific user education to students and faculty in the departments of African-American Studies, Psychology, Political Science, Criminology, Communication Studies, and Sociology/Anthropology. Provide individual and small-group consultation/instruction regarding electronic and print social sciences resources. Participate in general library information literacy program.

Additional Responsibilities: Participate in professional organizations. Contribute to research, scholarly, and professional conferences and publications. Serve on institutional committees. Carry out other activities required to attain tenure.

Qualifications

Required: ALA -accredited master?s degree and a broad knowledge of social science information resources. Educational background and/or experience in a relevant social science. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Initiative, flexibility and a strong service orientation.

Preferred: Significant experience using resources in the social sciences. Collection development experience in an academic setting. Reference and instruction experience in an academic setting. Additional graduate degree in an appropriate discipline is highly desirable.

In addition to housing traditional library collections and services, the building provides 26 group study rooms, two instructional computer labs, a caf?, a late-night study area, and a 105-seat multi-purpose auditorium. The Library?s collections consist of more than 700,000 volumes that have been selected by faculty and subject specialist librarians to support course offerings of the College and to provide a broad representative collection of titles across many disciplines. The library has access to over 33,000 periodical titles, which are available in a variety of formats: print, online, and microfilm/microfiche.

Appointment will be commensurate with experience, either at the rank of Librarian III (Instructor in the Library), with a current salary range of $52,623 ? $81,572, or Librarian II (Assistant Professor in the Library), with a current salary range of $63,966 ? $99,162. Full benefits package, including TIAA/CREF. This position is available July 1, 2013.
